Part II: Getting Around the City

Below is a basic guide on how to navigate your way around Nizhny Novgorod, both in terms of public transportation and finding directions.

Public transportation

In Nizhny Novgorod there are four main forms of public transportation: metro, tramvai (trolley car), bus, and marshrutka (a small bus). As of this writing, the metro and tramvai cost 16 rubles per ride, and the bus and marshrutka cost 20 rubles per ride. Below are pictures of these modes of transportation.

Finding your Way around the City

In order to find your way around the city, you can use the following website (which allows comes in app form): http://maps.2gis.ru/#/?history=project/nnovgorod. Just enter in where you’re coming from and where you’re heading to, and it will show you the most convenient ways to get there via public transportation. This website is only available in Russian. However, a basic knowledge of Russian should enable you to utilize this service with little problem.
